Peace Arch HOspital expansion project is now happening
In 2015, government announced plans to expand the emergency department at Peace Arch Hospital. This project was paused while the business plan was expanded to include the addition of the surgical suite and medical device reprocessing department redevelopments
The Province has approved the expanded business plan, which adds a surgical suite above the redeveloped emergency area, boosting the number of surgeries that will be able to be performed at the hospital.
Emergency room expansion plan
The expanded emergency department will double the number of treatment spaces to 50 from 24. It will include a separate pediatric treatment area, as well as a dedicated mental-health and substance-use space.
residential and hospice care
A new 200-bed residential care facility which includes the 15-bed George & Sylvia Melville Hospice Home is now under construction.
The new building, which will open its doors in fall 2019, is being constructed on land owned by Peace Arch Hospital Foundation across from Peace Arch Hospital at 17 Avenue and 156 Street in Surrey. Fraser Health will lease the facility from the Foundation and provide the medical services to patients. This innovative funding model is the first of its kind in BC.
operating room expansion plan
The surgical suite will benefit from the relocation and expansion of the medical device reprocessing department, allowing for improved access to sterilized surgical equipment used during surgeries.
